According to Standard Bank Africa’s Mining Value Chains Indaba 2026 report, South Africa’s mining sector remains a cornerstone of the economy, contributing an estimated 6% to 7% to gross domestic product and accounting for more than half of merchandise. However, beyond extraction rates, future growth will be based on the strength and resilience of the broader value chain.
